Over at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday, we’ve got another installment of the weekend series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Philadelphia Phillies.
This will be the third of a four-game set. On Friday, the Diamondbacks posted a commanding 10-2 win. In Saturday’s game, Arizona made it two in a row with a 4-1 win. The D-Backs out-hit Philly 11-4 in that one.

For Sunday’s game, the Diamondbacks will be whipping out right-hander Archie Bradley. In his six starts so far this year (atop a 2-3 record), Bradley has managed a 5.66 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP in 35 innings. On Tuesday when we last saw him take the mound, Bradley struck out nine Dodgers but allowed five runs on three homers in 5.2 innings.
At the plate, Arizona has loads of potential, if not consistency. Jean Segura is way out front on 85 hits with 35 runs and 29 RBI. Paul Goldschmidt has 71 hits with 39 runs, 14 homers and 45 RBI. Goldschmidt slapped a two-run homer on Saturday. Jake Lamb has hit safely 61 times with 33 runs, 13 homers and 41 RBI.
Over on the Phillies’ side, we’ll be getting another look at right-hander Zach Eflin. In his lone major league start this year, Eflin was destroyed for nine runs (eight earned) in just 2.2 innings (a 27.00 ERA) against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Eflin came into the game with a 2.90 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in Triple-A this season.
The Philadelphia batting order is unimpressive overall, but there are a few bright spots here and there. Odubel Herrera has been having a nice year on 74 hits with 36 runs and 24 RBI. Herrera had a solo homer in Saturday’s game. Maikel Franco has 57 hits with 19 runs, 11 homers and 33 RBI. Freddy Galvis is hitting just .218, but has 24 runs with 23 RBI.
The Diamondbacks are 4-0 in their last four Sunday games, and 5-11 in their last 16 game threes of a series. Arizona is also 5-2 in Bradley’s last seven starts versus a team with a losing record, and 7-1 in their last eight against the National League East.
As for the Phillies, they’re 0-6 in their last six game threes of a series, and 6-22 in their last 28 overall. Philadelphia is also 0-4 in their last four home games, and 1-7 in their last eight games against a right-handed starter.
Given Eflin’s rough start to the year, I don’t have a whole lot of confidence in the Phillies. I’ll take the Diamondbacks for the win.
