The St. Louis Cardinals look to keep the train rolling on the road as they take on the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Wednesday.
The Cardinals got a huge win on the road against their NL Central rivals from Chicago and they will look to follow suit on Wednesday night as they face off against one of the league’s best pitchers in Jake Arrieta who is 11-1 with a miniscule 1.74 ERA. St. Louis hasn’t quite had the season many expected them to as they are but three games above the .500 mark and are miles back of the Cubs in the NL Central standings but they always seem to show up when the stage is brightest and if they can get to Arrieta in this one it could be a huge turning point in their season. St. Louis will send Michael Wacha to the bump who has had a very disappointing year as he is 2-7 with a 4.56 ERA and has become a bit of a liability on the mound for the red birds.

The Cubs meanwhile have had a dream start to the season as they are a league best 47-21 and will get their guy on the mound tonight as Arrieta continues to dominate in his post Cy Young season and will be in the running once again with Clayton Kershaw. Chicago is loaded across the board and have built a solid lineup and rotation and should be considered at the very least a co-favourite to win the National League pennant and perhaps the World Series as well. Chicago is a heavy favourite here and with the pitching matchup being so lopsided it makes sense and while the Cards may be able to stay close I like Arrieta to do more than enough to get a win.
St. Louis is 6-0 in their last six road games, 6-0 in their last six against the NL Central, and 1-5 in their last six overall while the Cubs are 5-1 in their last six Wednesday games, 25-5 in Arrieta’s last 30 starts on four days rest, and 41-11 in his last 52 starts. The Cubs are the better team and show it here as Arrieta gets his team another win.
