The San Diego Padres look to shake off a tough loss on the road against the Orioles last night as they continue their road trip in Cincinnati against the Reds on Thursday night.
The Padres look to get their bats swinging after another tough outing at the plate on Wednesday night and they will need them here against a heavy hitting Reds side that is coming off a loss of their own but started to gain momentum late in the ball game. San Diego has already started to move some pieces and now the trade rumors continue to swirl as Wil Myers could be on the move soon it is clear that they have already packed it in for this season and will look to continue acquiring assets in order to go through a full rebuild. The Padres will send Christian Friedrich to the mound who has been a pleasant surprise for the Friars as he will match up against John Lamb who is a disappointing 1-4 with a 4.75 ERA.

The Reds meanwhile head into tonight’s contest with a very disappointing 28-43 record and have miles to go if they are going to get back into contention in the NL Central and the wild card hunt but it looks like it is a lost cause already. The Reds made some moves in the offseason that saw both Todd Frazier and Aroldis Chapman find new homes and while they still have some pop in the form of Joey Votto, Adam Duvall, and Jay Bruce they have some glaring holes and will be in tough to finish with a winning record this season. Lamb will have a shot at redemption here as the Padres lineup isn’t too overwhelming but Friedrich has been strong of late and will force the Reds’ pitcher to be sharp.
The Padres are 7-3 in their last 10 against a lefty, 2-5 in their their last seven Thursday games, and 3-10 in their last 13 road games while the Reds are 7-0 in their last seven series openers, 16-40 in their last 56 against the NL West, and 3-9 in Lamb’s last 12 starts. This is actually shaping up to be an interesting game to watch and I think it is worth a look with the visitors as Friedrich has pitched well and should give San Diego the edge here.
