The Seattle Mariners look to recapture the early season magic that had them sitting atop the American League West. The Mariners have lost nine of eleven following a 5-1 loss at Detroit on Thursday with both the pitching and hitting unable to come up big. M’s starter Hisashi Iwakuma was charged with all five runs on eleven hits including three homers over 4.2 frames to absorb the loss. Seattle was held to three hits and a free pass with Leonys Martin knocking in Ketel Marte . The Mariners hand the ball to rookie Adrian Sampson for his second career start in the finale’ at Detroit. Sampson lost his debut 6-2 at Boston with four runs plated on eight hits over 4.2 innings.

The Detroit Tigers hope to remain consistently hot in the American League Central in order to make a charge at the division lead. The Tigers took a step in the right direction with Thursday’s home victory with plenty of hitting and pitching. Tigers starter Michael Fulmer allowed the lone run on three hits and a BB through 4.1 innings while four relievers didn’t allow a base runner. Detroit pounded out 12 hits and walked three times with Miguel Cabrera going solo while Steven Moya went 3-4 with a homer, two RBI’s and three runs. Jose Iglesias knocked in a pair while every starter but two recorded a hit. The Tigers send Daniel Norris to the bump for his first start this season. Norris will be called up from AAA Toledo where he had gone 4-6 in eleven outings with a 4.68 ERA.
