In MLB action on Sunday, the Minnesota Twins and the New York Yankees will be concluding their weekend series from Yankee Stadium.
This will be game three of the set. In Friday’s opener, the Yankees bagged a 5-3 victory. On Saturday, New York scored in the bottom of the eighth to squeak out a 2-1 victory.

For Sunday’s game, the Twins will be going with right-hander Tyler Duffey on the mound. In his 11 starts and 2-6 record, Duffey has managed a 6.18 ERA with a 1.58 WHIP in 59.2 innings. In his last start, Duffey struggled on six runs in three innings against the Phillies.
There are some gems hidden within the Minnesota order. Eduardo Nunez has 79 hits with 34 runs and 28 RBI to lead the way. Joe Mauer has hit 73 times with 31 runs and 26 RBI. Miguel Sano has 11 homers with 27 RBI, 42 hits and 25 runs but is hitting a measly .235 on the year. Sano is currently working his way back from injury.
The Yankees will be countering with right-hander Nathan Eovaldi in Sunday’s game. In his 14 starts with a 6-4 record this year, Eovaldi has put up a 5.02 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP in 80.2 innings. Last Sunday, Eovaldi allowed four earned in 5.1 innings for a loss.
The New York batting order holds some solid swingers as well. Carlos Beltran has hit 74 times with 40 runs, 19 homers and 53 RBI. Starlin Castro has put up 69 hits with 26 runs, 10 homers and 29 RBI. Didi Gregorius has hit 69 times with 27 runs and 32 RBI on the year.
The Twins are 7-21 in their last 28 game threes of a series, and 2-5 in Duffey’s last seven starts in game three of a series. Minnesota is also 1-4 in Duffey’s last five road starts, and 1-4 in Duffey’s last four starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 12-2 in Eovaldi’s last 14 starts in game three of a series, and 5-2 in Eovaldi’s last seven Sunday starts. New York is also 10-4 in Eovaldi’s last 14 starts against a team with a losing record, and 19-9 in Eovaldi’s last 28 starts overall.
The Yankees are simply playing better baseball right now, so I’ll give them a slight edge. The over may be the safest play here, however, despite the heavy line.
