The Houston Astros go on the road to face the Los Angeles Angels in AL West action Monday.
The Houston Astros have finally been playing like the team we saw a season ago with both the arms and bats contributing. Neither came through in Sunday’s 6-1 loss at Kansas City although the Astros have still won nine of eleven. Stros starter Doug Fister took the loss with four runs plated on eight hits including three homers over 6.2 frames with Tony Sipp giving up two runs without recording an out. Houston was held to four hits and a walk with Evan Gattis cracking his 12th homer in the 6th. The Astros send Collin McHugh to the mound for his second straight time on Monday night. McHugh did not get a decision in a 3-2 victory with both runs allowed over seven frames.

The Los Angeles Angels have their work cut out on them with both the Astros and Rangers taking control of the American League West. The Angels scored the final five runs of a 7-6 win versus Oakland to end a six game slide on Sunday. LAA starter Hector Santiago was charged with all six runs on seven hits through six innings before three relievers put up zeros. Los Angeles pounded out 13 hits and walked three times with Mike Trout going deep and driving in two while scoring twice. Every starter but one reached base as the offense bailed out Santiago. The Angels are slated to start Matt Shoemaker against the rival Astros on Monday. Shoemaker comes off a 3-2 loss to the Astros where he gave up all three runs on eight hits in 7.1 frames.
The over is 12-3-3 in Houston’s last 18 Monday games and the under is 8-2 in their last 10 road games while the Astros are 21-6 in their last 27 games on grass. The over is 16-5 in the Angels last 21 home games and is 13-6-2 in their last 21 Monday games. Houston has been hot so I’ll give them a slight edge…
