The New York Mets continue their battle for first in the East at the Washington Nationals.
The New York Mets have been playing around .500 baseball to hang around first place in the NL East. Round one of the battle for first in the East went to Washington 11-4 Monday with the work on the mound unable to hold up their end of the bargain. Mets starter Noah Syndergaard allowed five runs over three frames while Sean Gilmartin gave up five more to put the offense behind the eight ball. The NYM posted 14 hits with Wilmer Flores going 2-4 with two RBI’s while three players drove in runs and four scored. The Mets are slated to send Matt Harvey to the bump for game two of their series at Washington. Harvey did not receive a decision last time out in a 4-3 loss at Atlanta where he allowed two runs on eight hits over six innings.

The Washington Nationals have been slumping for a few weeks and missed out on many opportunities to extend their lead in the National League East. Following Monday’s victory, the Nationals have won back to back contests and stretched their lead in the National League East. Nats starter Joe Ross improved to 7-4 with all four runs plated on ten hits through six innings. Washington racked up 17 hits and five walks with Anthony Rendon driving in three while Jayson Werth, Daniel Murphy and Danny Espinosa drove in two runs apiece. The Nats call up Lucas Giolito for his major league debut. Giolito was 5-3 with a 3.17 ERA in 14 starts at AA Harrisburg.
The under is 7-2 in the Mets last 9 overall and is 7-2 in their last 9 on grass while New York are 2-6 in Harvey’s last 8 starts. Washington are 1-7 in their last 8 overall and are 1-7 in their last 8 games on grass while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 home games. I’m just going with the Nationals who I think have an edge…
