Citi Field and the New York Mets brace for a visit from the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.
The Chicago Cubs have shown some signs of slowing down the last few weeks and we’ll have to see how things play out in the very near future. The Cubs might have straightened things after a 9-2 win at Great American Ball Park was their third in a row. Cubbies starter Kyle Hendricks evened his record at 6-6 with both runs given up on eight hits over 6.2 frames. Chicago totaled 12 hits and walked five times with Albert Almora Jr. going solo while Anthony Rizzo cracked a three run bomb. The Cubs hand the ball to veteran John Lackey for the series opener at the Mets. Lackey is coming off his worse outing of the year in a 9-6 loss at Miami with seven runs plated on seven hits and three BB over 4.1 innings.

The New York Mets have fallen to third in the National League East as their arms and bats haven’t been on the same page often enough. The Mets need a win after Wednesday’s 4-2 defeat at Washington saddled the team with four losses in a row. NYM starter Logan Verrett gave up a pair of runs on four hits and four BB through five innings to get the loss while Sean Gilmartin allowed two more. New York was held to six hits and a walk with James Loney cracking a two run homer in the 9th that plated Yoenis Cespedes. Steven Matz will be on the mound for the Mets Thursday for his first meeting with the Cubs since 2015. Matz did not get a decision in an 8-6 victory at Atlanta with six runs scored on nine hits in 4.1 frames.
The over is 12-3-1 in the Cubs last 16 Thursday games and the Cubs are 17-5 in their last 22 Thursday games while the under is 7-2 in Lackey’s last 9 on grass. The under is 8-3 in the Mets last 11 overall and is 8-3 in their last 11 on grass. The under is 8-3-2 in the last 13 meetings. The Cubs look to be back in the groove…
