The Chicago Cubs look to shake off a late game collapse and get back in the win column as they continue their series at Citi Field against the New York Mets.
The Cubs took a rare loss in New York against the reigning NL champions on Thursday night as they gave up three runs in the seventh inning to fall 3-1 but will get right back on the horse on Friday as they face off against the Mets again. Chicago has been the league’s best team since the first pitch of the season and while they have received some company of late with the Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants playing very well but the Cubs seem to have everything clicking despite their play dropping off a bit over the last couple of weeks. Chicago will look to Jason Hammel in this one who continues to enjoy his time in the Windy City with a 7-4 record and a 2.58 ERA as he will face off against Jacob deGrom who is 3-4 with a 2.67 mark.

The Mets have had a bit of a tough stretch and with a record just three games over the .500 mark it is safe to say they are a bit of a disappointment this season as they are the defending National League champions and could very well have been crowned World Series champions as well. New York was supposed to have the most dominant rotation in the MLB with the lieks of deGrom, Matt Harvey, Steven Matz, and Bartolo Colon in the fold but they have been a bit f a disappointment as well and it is the Cubs who have been lights out on the mound and they will look to shut down the Mets’ offense in this one.
Chicago is 18-6 in their last 24 Friday games, 13-5 in their last 18 road games against a team with a winning record, and 100-49 in their last 149 overall while the Mets are 20-8 in their last 28 Friday games, 5-1 in deGrom’s last six starts on five days rest, and 19-9 in his last 28 home starts. New York is coming off a big win yesterday and while Hammel has pitched well for the Cubs I still like deGrom better as he gives New York the edge and I think he gets rewarded with a victory.
