The Washington Nationals look to expand their lead in the East with a win versus the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.
The Cincinnati Reds have been tough at times but the past few weeks have not been kind. The Reds struggles continued with Friday’s 3-2, 14 inning defeat at Washington where the bats struggled to support strong pitching. Cinci starter Anthony DeSclafani gave up two runs on six hits over 6.2 frames before Ross Ohlendorf allowed a run in the 14th to get the loss. Cincinnati pounded out eleven hits and walked twice with Tucker Barnhart driving ina run while Adam Duvall recorded an RBI and scored. Dan Strailey toes the rubber against the Nationals for the second time this year. Strailey has struggled the past three times out with 17 runs scored on 19 hits and eight BB in 14 frames.

I always say the Washington Nationals are streaky and right now they have been in a good streak with six consecutive victories after squeezing by visiting Cincinnati on Friday night. The Nationals offense wasn’t able to do much but starter Tanner Roark held the Red to two runs on eight hits through seven innings before five relievers held Cincinnati scoreless. The Nats posted ten hits and four bases on balls with Daniel Murphy driving in two while Ben Revere drove in a run and scored. The Nationals have slated Joe Ross for Saturday’s start against visiting Cincinnati. Ross comes off an 11-4 rout of the Mets with all four runs plated on ten hits in six frames.
Cincinnati are 18-41 in their last 59 road games and are 30-65 in their last 95 overall while going 30-65 in their last 95 games on grass. Washington are 10-1 in their last 11 home games and the over is 9-4 in Washington’s last 13 home games while the Nationals are 8-2 in Ross' last 10 home starts. The Reds are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. I’m just going with the hot team but I’m usually leery of Washington…
