The New York Mets look to build on their home field win over the Miami Marlins on Monday as the teams face off again at Citi Field on Tuesday.
The Marlins look to shake off a loss yesterday on the Fourth of July as they fell to their NL East division rivals from New York but they get right back on the horse here against those same Mets as the teams jockey for position in the division. Miami is three games above the .500 mark and trail the Mets by 2.5 games in NL East division standings and 6.5 back of the Washington Nationals but they are certainly still in the mix for a playoff spot and if they can come back and grab a win here and perhaps take the series with the Mets they could head into the all-star break hanging onto one of the five available spot in the National League. The Marlins will send Wei-Yin Chen to the mound who is 4-3 with a 5.11 ERA as he will go up against Steven Matz who is 7-3 with a respectable 3.62 mark.

The Mets are coming off a big win and are favoured to get another win here as they hold the edge on the mound but the teams are pretty even when it comes to their lineup as Miami can swing the bats pretty well and when at their best could be a step ahead of the Mets in that department. New York will look to jump on Chen here as his ERA continues to climb and with Matz on the mound it makes sense to see the money coming in on the home side here but if Christian Yelich continues to mash and Giancarlo Stanton can connect with guys on base the Marlins are tough to beat and could pose a problem in this one for New York.
The Marlins are 2-5 in their last seven road games, 4-0 in Chen’s last four starts on four days rest, and 1-4 in his last five road starts while the Mets are 4-0 in their last four overall, 8-0 in their last eight at home against a team with a winning record and 6-0 in their last six home games. I like the way the Marlins play but they are in tough here as the Mets throw Matz at them who has been strong this season and I don’t think Chen can keep the Mets bats in check.
