The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -163 / Pittsburgh Pirates +153 --- Over/Under: 8 See the Latest Odds
The Pittsburgh Pirates look to stay red hot and win their ninth game in 11 tries on Wednesday night as they take on the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
The Pirates have hit top flight and will look to win yet another game on Wednesday after sweeping away with the Oakland Athletics over the weekend and now having taken the first two here against the Cards with a chance for a third tonight. Pittsburgh got off to a rocky start this season and many expected they would stay there after some key pieces had slow starts but the duo of Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco have been exceptional and if Andrew McCutchen can come around the Bucs could get back in the race for a wild card spot and challenge for the NL pennant like many thought they would do heading into the season. Jeff Locke will get the nod in this one as he is 8-5 with a 5.13 ERA and he will face off against Jaime Garcia who is 6-6 but has a very serviceable 3.84 ERA this season.

The Cardinals meanwhile are just 5-5 in their last 10 games and are a disappointing 18-24 at home this season but they get a shot at redemption at least for one day in this one as Garcia gets the call who has had some bad luck despite a pretty solid season. St. Louis has some pretty solid pieces and should be in the running for a wild card spot in the NL if they can sustain some level of consistency but as we have mentioned before they seem to be a shade off this season and don’t really seem like much of a threat when thinking about some of the better teams in baseball.
The Pirates are 5-0 in their last five road games, 11-5 in their last 16 road games against a lefty, but 2-8 in their last 10 during game three of a series, while the Cards are 8-1 in their last nine Wednesday starts, 4-1 in Garcia’s last five starts, and 3-8 in their last 11 home games. St. Louis is bound to break out of this funk and while Locke has been pitching well I think Garcia has the edge here and the Cards get one back.
