The Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue Jays will be finishing out their MLB series on Wednesday at Rogers Centre.
This will be game three of the early-week set. In Monday’s opener, the Blue Jays secured a 6-2 victory. On Tuesday, Toronto got another win, this one 8-3.

For Wednesday’s game, the Royals will be rolling out right-hander Ian Kennedy. Over 16 starts and a 6-7 record this year, Kennedy has managed a 4.04 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP in 93.2 innings. On Friday against the Phillies, Kennedy was touched up for six hits and three earned over five innings in a loss.
The Royals have some interesting names in their batting order. Eric Hosmer heads the group on 97 hits with 45 runs, 13 homers and 49 RBI. Alcides Escobar has put up 92 hits with 29 runs and 21 RBI. Lorenzo Cain isn’t far off with his 83 hits, 39 runs and 39 RBI thus far. Cain is currently injured, however.
RHP Marcus Stroman will be taking the mound for the Blue Jays on Wednesday. In his 17 starts and 6-4 record this year, Stroman has managed a 5.08 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP in 108 innings. On Friday in a no-decision against the Indians, Stroman provided 6.2 innings with five hits and one earned.
At the plate, Toronto isn’t hurting for big names. Josh Donaldson has hit 22 homers this year with 60 RBI, 77 runs and 93 hits. Donaldson bashed a pair of homers on Tuesday. Edwin Encarnacion has a team-high (tie) 22 homers with 55 runs, 85 hits and 77 RBI. Kevin Pillar has hit 84 times with 35 runs and 34 RBI in 2016.
The Royals are 5-1 in their last six game threes of a series, and 4-1 in their last five games versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. Kansas City is also 5-2 in Kennedy’s last seven starts against a team with a winning record, and 0-4 in Kennedy’s last four road starts.
As for the Blue Jays, they’re 6-0 in their last six Wednesday games, and 7-2 in their last nine game threes of a series. Toronto is also 5-1 in Stroman’s last six Wednesday starts, and 1-5 in Stroman’s last six starts.
I’m not thrilled with Stroman right now, so I’ll go with Kennedy and the Royals for the win here.
