The New York Yankees open a series at Progressive field Thursday against the Cleveland Indians.
The New York Yankees have been hovering around the .500 mark and are a winning streak away from getting back in the American League East race. The Yankees dropped two games below .500 following Wednesday’s 5-0 defeat at the White Sox where the bats could not help the pitching. Yanks starter Michael Pineda allowed all five runs on five hits and a trio of free passes over six frames to absorb the defeat. The Bronx Bombers were held to eight hits with Jacoby Ellsbury and Didi Gregorious logging three hits apiece. The Yankees have slated Ivan Nova as the series opening starter versus Cleveland. Nova did not get a decision in a 2-1 loss at San Diego with one run scoring on four hits over 5.1 innings.
