Coming up in MLB action on Friday from Oriole Park, the Los Angeles Angels and the Baltimore Orioles will be kicking off their series.
The Angels just finished with the Rays this week. L.A. lost the first game, but won the next two. In the Thursday finale, the Angels made it three in a row with a 5-1 victory.
As for the Orioles, they played three games against the Dodgers. Baltimore dropped game one but won the next two as well.

For Friday’s game, the Angels will be sending out right-hander Matt Shoemaker. In his 16 games this year, Shoemaker has established a 4.40 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP in 92 innings. On Sunday against the Red Sox, Shoemaker put up five runs and nine hits in 4.2 innings for a loss.
As far as hitters, Los Angeles carries some very big names. Mike Trout is sitting on 100 hits with 64 runs, 18 homers and 56 RBI. Yunel Escobar has 99 hits with 36 runs and 26 RBI. Escobar bagged three hits on Thursday. Kole Calhoun has 93 hits with 50 runs, 10 homers and 46 RBI to his credit so far.
The Orioles haven’t announced a starter for Friday’s game just yet (we’ll update when that info becomes available), but it will likely be either Ubaldo Jimenez or Mike Wright.
At the plate, Baltimore has an embarrassment of riches. Manny Machado is crushing on 106 hits with 60 runs, 19 homers and 53 RBI among 106 hits. Mark Trumbo has hit 96 times with 52 runs, 26 homers and 64 RBI. Jonathan Schoop has 94 hits with 47 runs, 13 homers and 50 RBI.
The Angels are 5-16 in their last 21 against the American League East, and 0-9 in their last nine game ones of a series. L.A. is also 0-4 in Shoemaker’s last four road starts, and 0-4 in Shoemaker’s last four starts overall.
As for the orioles, they’re 7-0 in their last seven versus a team with a losing record, and 2-5 in their last seven overall. Baltimore is also 0-9 in their last nine against the American League West and 2-5 in their last seven game ones of a series.
There’s not a whole lot to like here, but I’ll take the Angels. L.A. shouldn’t have much trouble against the pitching in this one.
