Home Run Derby - 7/11/16 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction
MLB Baseball: Monday, July 11, 2016 at 8:00 pm (Petco Park)
The 2016 Home Run Derby features some of the top sluggers in baseball swinging for the fences Monday night at Petco Park.
USA TODAY Sports
Players are ranked 1-8 based on the number of home runs they have hit over the first half of the season.
#1-Mark Trumbo-Baltimore Orioles---The Orioles slugger is tops in the game with 28 dingers and is hitting .287. Trumbo likely benefits from playing at Camden Yards but at 6-4 and 225 pounds, no park will hold him when he connects.
#2-Todd Frazier-Chicago White Sox---The defending Home Run Derby champion won the title in 2015 at Great American Ball Park as a member of the Reds. Frazier has left the yard 25 times but is only hitting .215, however when he does hit the ball things are happening as his not too shabby 57 RBI’s can attest to.
#3-Adam Duvall-Cincinnati Reds---The Reds left fielder is somewhat unheralded because the Reds notoriety is their poor record and most people don’t look past that. Duvall has 23 homers and 61 RBI’s and it’s safe to say the Reds would have even fewer wins without him.
#4-Robinson Cano-Seattle Mariners---The former Yankees slugger was lured to what was an offensively challenged Mariners club by a huge contract. Money has not distracted the Seattle star who is hitting over .300 with 20 bombs and 56 RBI’s. Cano’s experience in this event could pay dividends.
#5-Giancarlo Stanton-Miami Marlins---At 6-6 and nearly 250 pounds, Giancarlo Stanton has the tremendous size that makes him a natural for this event. Injuries have robbed him of parts of the past few seasons but the Marlins star has 19 long balls despite a low .233 average and his production is key if the Fish are to do anything in the second half.
#6-Wil Myers-San Diego Padres---Based on Todd Frazier winning this event in front of the home town Cincinnati fans in 2015, Myers gets the same opportunity with the Petco Park fans cheering him on. The Padres and offense have not been used in the same sentence very often but Myers is an exception with a .290 average, 19 homers and 60 RBI’s.
#7-Carlos Gonzalez-Colorado Rockies---It’s undeniable that the Rockies offense benefits from playing at Coors Field but Carlos Gonzalez is just a guy who can play anywhere and come up with quality numbers. Gonzalez brings a .318 average and 18 homers in to the event.
#8-Corey Seager-Los Angeles Dodgers---The Dodgers have a lot of talent but SS Corey Seager is one of the best with his ability to hit for both average and power. Seager is hovering around the .300 and has 17 homers and will be a the forefront of any success the Dodgers achieve in 2016.
The Home Run Derby is a guess more then anything and certainly not an event I would bet for more then a few dollars but I’m looking at Wil Myers or Robinson Cano.
