The Miami Marlins host the Cincinnati Reds in the final game of the first half on Sunday.
I have said the Cincinnati Reds lacking on the mound and at the plate but are capable of stringing a few wins together against anybody. The Reds couldn’t generate any offense in a 4-2 defeat at Miami on Saturday which squandered a solid effort on the mound by starter John Lamb. Lamb gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits over six frames while whiffing nine. Cinci totaled eight hits and two bases on balls with Adam Duvall going deep while Brandon Phillips drove in Jay Bruce. Cincinnati closes the first half of the season with rookie Cody Reed on the hill for his 5th start. Overall, Reed has logged an 0-3 record with a 1.85 WHIP and 9.00 ERA over 20 innings.

The Miami Marlins have positioned themselves to make a second half run in the National League East although the Wild Card might be more realistic. The Marlins have now won three of four after downing visiting Cincinnati with great pitching and a few clutch hits doing the job. Fish starter Adam Conley upped his record to 6-5 with both runs plated on four hits through 5.2 innings before four relievers held the Reds scoreless. Miami logged eight hits and walked twice with Martin Prado going 3-3 with two RBI’s while JT Realmuto went 2-3 and scored three times. Miami sends Tom Koehler to the hill to match up with the Reds who he last saw in 2014. Koehler did not receive a decision last time out in an 8-6 loss at the Mets where he allowed two solo homers in five frames.
Cincinnati are 14-37 in their last 51 Sunday games and are 15-37 in their last 52 road games while the over is 7-3-1 in the Reds last 11 overall. The over is 6-2 in Koehler’s last 8 starts on grass and is 6-2 in Koehler’s last 8 starts overall while Miami are 4-9 in Koehler’s last 13 starts. The under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. I think Koehler is hit or miss so take this with a grain of salt…
