Wrigley Field and the Chicago Cubs host the Texas Rangers in interleague action on Friday.
The Texas Rangers were white hot through most of the first half of the season but they have slowed lately. The Rangers begin the second half of the year with defeats in seven of ten following a 15-5 loss to Minnesota where the arms never found a groove. Texas starter AJ Griffin gave up six runs on nine hits over five frames before three relievers combined to allow seven runs. The Rangers totaled nine hits and six walks with Jurickson Profar going solo while five players drove in runs and four scored. The Rangers are scheduled to begin the second half of the season with Martin Perez on the bump. Perez struggled in his last start in an 11-6 loss at Boston with all eleven runs scored on nine hits over four innings.

The Chicago Cubs were once the hottest team in the game but they have been in a bit of a funk with defeats in eight of ten. The Cubs knocked off Pittsburgh 6-5 right before the break with the offense and pen saving the day. Cubbies starter John Lackey was charged with all five runs on seven hits including two homers through six innings before three relievers held the Pirates off the scoreboard. Chicago hammered out 15 hits and walked twice with Albert Almora Jr. going deep and driving in two while Addison Russell knocked in two more. Kyle Hendricks gets Friday night’s start against the visiting Rangers. Hendricks is coming off of a 10-4 victory versus Cincinnati with one run allowed on four hits in 5.1 frames.
Texas are 8-1 in Perez’s last 9 starts and are 8-1 in Perez’s last 9 starts on grass while the under is 7-1 in Perez’s last 8 Friday starts. The over is 12-3-2 in the Cubs last 17 on grass and is 12-3-2 in their last 17 overall while the under is 16-5 in their last 21 home games. Neither team is winning but Hendricks has been doing well…
