Coming up in MLB action on Saturday from Yankee Stadium, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees will be continuing their weekend series.
This will be game two of the set. In Friday’s opener, the Red Sox managed a 5-3 win.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Saturday game, the Red Sox will be recalling lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. Over his six starts this season, Rodriquez has totaled an 8.59 ERA with a 1.74 WHIP in 29.1 innings. In his most recent start, Rodriguez lasted just 2.2 innings in a loss against Tampa Bay, allowing 11 hits and nine runs.
The good thing is that the Red Sox have a great crew of hitters on their roster. Xander Bogaerts leads the charge on 118 hits with 66 runs, 11 homers and 58 RBI. Mookie Betts is right up there as well with 118 hits, 75 runs, 18 homers and 59 RBI. Dustin Pedroia is playing well also with 107 hits, 56 runs and 37 RBI. Pedroia had a hit and a run on Friday.
The Yankees will be countering with left-hander CC Sabathia on Saturday. In his 15 starts and 5-6 record this season, Sabathia has put up a 3.77 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP in 88.1 innings. In his last start against Cleveland, Sabathia managed a no-decision in 5.2 innings with seven hits and five runs.
At the plate, the New York hitters are a decent group at times. Carlos Beltran heads things up with 90 hits, 45 runs, 19 homers and 58 RBI. Didi Gregorius has put up 89 hits, 38 runs, 11 homers and 41 RBI. Starlin Castro is playing pretty well with his 86 hits, 34 runs, 10 homers and 31 RBI. Castro had a hit and a run in Friday’s game.
The Red Sox are 14-6 in their last 20 Saturday games, and 2-8 in their last 10 games against a left-handed starter. Boston is also 6-1 in Rodriguez’s last seven starts in game two of a series, and 1-4 in Rodriguez’s last five starts.
As for the Yankees, they’re 7-3 in their last 10 Saturday games, and 1-6 in their last seven against the American League East. New York is also 32-11 in Sabathia’s last 43 home starts against a team with a winning record. The over is 5-1 in Sabathia’s last six Saturday starts.
I’m not too thrilled with Rodriguez right now, so I’ll take Sabathia and the Yankees here.
