The Los Angeles Angels look to build on a big home win over the White Sox yesterday as they continue their home stand with an AL West show down against the Texas Rangers.
The Rangers head into Los Angeles coming off a 4-1 win on the road against the Chicago Cubs in what they hope is the start of them snapping out of an ugly skid as they take on the Angels in a pivotal AL West series. Texas has been the class of the West all season long and still look like a team that is capable of winning the World Series but they have been sloppy of late as they were 0-4 before yesterday’s win against the Cubs and with a ton of speculation surrounding potential additions to their roster it is safe to say they are going all in this season. The Rangers are still 17 games above the .500 mark while the Angels are a disappointing 40-52 and are big time underachievers but if the Halos can go on a run in the second half of the season they could play their way into a wild card spot and at the very least build towards next season.

The Angels will send Nick Tropeano to the mound as he will face off against AJ Griffin who will look to improve to 4-1 on the year and lower his ERA from 3.81 while the Halos starter is 3-2 with a 3.12 ERA and has been impressive in his own right. Los Angeles could find themselves as sellers at the trade deadline as they have been quiet in the league standings and while it seems like everyone outside of Mike Trout will be available those names have yet to be unveiled as there are some tough contracts to assume if you’re a buyer.
The Rangers are 1-6 in their last seven road games, 21-8 in their last 29 against the AL West, and 6-2 in Griffin’s last eight starts while the Angels are 6-2 in their last eight overall, 6-1 in Tropeano’s last seven against a team with a winning record and 0-5 in their last five Mnday games. LA is coming off a nice win against the White Sox but Texas has more on the line and I think Griffin shows up here and gets the Rangers a big win to start the series.
