The Chicago White Sox look to shake off a tough loss on the road to the Angels as they continue their trip away from home on Monday against the Seattle Mariners.
The White Sox turn to their ace on Monday night as they head into Seattle to face off against the Mariners with Chris Sale facing off against Wade Leblanc in what is certainly a pitching edge in favour of the road team. Chicago is a game under the .500 mark and desperately need to find their stride in the second half of the season if they’re going to make a push for a playoff spot and while they have looked like playoff contenders at times they have looked like doormats at others and need to find some balance from their pretty decent lineup and rotation if they’re going to sneak in to a playoff spot out of the American League Central. Sale will look to move to 15-3 on the year with a victory in this one as he will go up against Leblanc who is 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA in his limited action this season.

The Mariners meanwhile are at the same crossroads as the White Sox right now as they are right on the .500 mark at 46-46 this season and they too need to find some momentum heading into the home stretch of the season. Seattle doesn’t have as much wiggle room though as they have more ground to make up in the West than the Sox do in the Central and while they are in the same spot in terms of a wild card spot the M’s pursuit of the Rangers looks like it may be tough to overcome and their only hope is a wild card spot. Seattle will hope Leblanc can go pitch for pitch with Sale but it is a very unenviable task and a lot to ask of a young pitcher as Sale has been lights out once again and should be considered a contender for another Cy Young award.
The White Sox are 5-0 in Sale’s last five starts against a team with a winning record, 5-1 in his last six overall and 7-2 in his last nine road starts while the M’s are 5-1 in their last six home starts, 1-4 in their last five Monday games, and 2-5 in their last seven home games against a lefty. This is a tough spot for Seattle as Sale is pitching so well and Chicago will need him to be sharp if they’re going to get back in the win column here.
