The San Diego Padres visit Busch Stadium Monday to begin a weekday series with the St. Louis Cardinals.
When the San Diego Padres score runs good things happen but a consistent attack isn’t always on the menu. Offense was on the menu Sunday in a 5-3 win versus visiting San Francisco with the Padres receiving quality efforts in all areas. SD starter was charged with all three runs (two earned) on one hit and five BB over 6.1 frames to get the victory. San Diego totaled ten hits and three walks with Matt Kemp, Yangervis Solarte and Christian Bethancourt each smacking long balls. The Padres kick off their series at Busch Stadium with Christian Friedrich on the hill. Friedrich comes off of a 3-1 loss at the Dodgers with all three runs allowed on seven hits over five innings.

The St. Louis Cardinals are trying to get in a groove and position themselves for a spot in the postseason. The Cardinals had won three of four before nothing went favorably in a 6-3 loss to visiting Miami on Sunday. Cards starter Michael Wacha allowed three runs on seven hits through four innings with the bullpen giving up three more. The Redbirds were limited to four hits and three walks with Matt Holliday going 3-4 with a solo jack as St. Louis mustered just two earned runs.Mike Leake toes the rubber against visiting San Diego for the second time in 2016. Leake defeated Milwaukee 5-1 last time out with a run allowed in six frames while whiffing ten.
The over is 17-8 in San Diego’s last 25 overall and is 17-8 in their last 25 on grass while going 8-2 in Friedrich’s last 10 starts on grass. The under is 12-3-1 in the Cardinals last 16 home games and St. Louis are 5-11 in their last 16 home games while going 13-6 in their last 19 Monday games. San Diego are 16-48 in the last 64 meetings in St. Louis and the under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in St. Louis. I believe St. Louis is the right side but they are not deserving of the big odds…
