We’ve got some great MLB action coming our way on Wednesday as the Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies get it going again at Citizens Bank Park.
This will be game three of the series. In the opener, Miami managed a close 3-2 win. On Tuesday, the Marlins won in another 2-1 squeaker that took 10 innings to finish.

Workhorse lefty Wei-Yin Chen will be taking the mound for the Marlins on Wednesday. In his 18 starts and 5-3 record this year, Chen has managed a 4.90 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP in 104.2 innings. In St. Louis his last time out, Chen logged a no-decision with six innings, four earned and six hits.
The Miami lineup has some pretty solid talent. Martin Prado has been smoking on 110 hits with 40 runs and 32 RBI. Marcel Ozuna has put up 103 hits with 54 runs, 17 homers and 50 RBI. Christian Yelich holds 103 hits with 45 runs and 51 RBI so far. Yelich slapped a homer on Tuesday.
RHP Jeremy Hellickson will get the call for the Phillies on Wednesday. In his 19 starts and 6-7 record this year, Hellickson has put up a 4.03 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP in 111.2 innings. In a loss to the Mets his last time out, Hellickson gave up four earned on seven hits in six innings.
The Phillies have a few key hitters atop their lineup. Odubel Herrera holds 100 hits with 51 runs, 10 homers and 33 RBI. Maikel Franco has managed 86 hits with 37 runs, 18 homers and 55 RBI. Freddy Galvis is playing fairly well on 79 hits with 35 runs and 36 RBI, but has a tepid .228 BA this year.
The Marlins are 9-4 in their last 13 game threes of a series, and 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games. Miami is also 5-1 in Chen’s last six starts and 5-1 in Chen’s last six starts on grass.
As for the Phillies, they’re 4-10 in their last 14 game threes of a series, and 2-6 in their last eight games versus a left-handed starter. Philadelphia is also 4-1 in Hellickson’s last five Wednesday starts, and 3-7 in Hellickson’s last 10 starts.
I don’t foresee the Marlins having a whole lot of trouble here, so I’ll take Miami for the victory.
