The San Francisco Giants visit the Big Apple to open an interleague series with the New York Yankees.
The San Francisco Giants have been in a funk the past week or so and want to get back on the winning track before this becomes something big. The Giants have lost; five in a row after Wednesday’s 11-7 decision at Fenway Park. SF starter Matt Cain allowed five runs on three homers over 2.1 frames with Albert Suarez giving up five more in three innings. The Giants amassed 15 hits and four walks with Mac Williamson slugging a three run bomb while Trevor Brown went deep with two RBI’s and two runs. San Francisco kicks off the series at New York with Madison Bumgarner who has never seen the Yankees. Bumgarner comes off a 4-1 loss at San Diego where he was charged with all four runs over six innings.

The New York Yankees have been playing some of their best baseball the past few weeks and it has to continue if they are to make a run in the American League East. The Yankees saw their shot at a five game winning streak end in a 4-1 defeat to the visiting Orioles on Thursday. Yanks starter CC Sabathia was charged with all four runs on seven hits through 6.2 innings to absorb the loss. The Bronx Bombers were held to five hits and a pair of free passes with Starlin Castro knocking in Didi Gregorius with the lone run. Masahiro Tanaka draws the start against visiting San Francisco on Friday who he sees for the first time. Tanaka defeated the Red Sox 3-1 last time out with a run scoring on three hits in six frames.
The under is 7-2 in Bumgarner’s last 9 on grass and is 7-2 in Bumgarner’s last 9 starts overall while the Giants are 12-4 in Bumgarner’s last 16 starts. New York are 10-1 in Tanaka’s last 11 starts on grass and are 8-1 in Tanaka’s last 9 home starts while going 8-3 in Tanaka’s last 11 Friday starts. The Giants are not playing well so my feeling about them is lukewarm…
