The Milwaukee Brewers and the rival Chicago Cubs shoot for a win at Miller Park Saturday.
The Chicago Cubs are looking to sew up the National League Central and the only way to do that is to avoid losing streaks. The Cubs might be in the groove again after Fridays win gave the team with wins in six of eight. Cubbies starter Jason Hammel allowed both runs on four hits and two BB over five frame to go to 9-5 with five relievers putting up zeros. Chicago managed eight hits and four walks with Dexter Fowler going 3-5 with a homer, three RBI’s and two runs. The Cubs send veteran John Lackey to the mound hoping he can rebound from his recent struggles. In Lackey’s last three starts he has gone 0-2 with a 1.40 WHIP and 6.30 ERA.

The Milwaukee Brewers have been fading and are looking to take as many teams as possible with them. The Brewers had an opportunity to mess up the Cubs for a night but struggled on the mound and at the plate in Friday’s defeat. Brew Crew starter Jimmy Nelson fell to 6-8 with four runs plated (two earned) on four hits and three BB through five innings. The Brew Crew were held to four hits and four walks with Ryan Braun going solo while Hernan Peres knocked in Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Zach Davies toes the rubber against the visiting Cubs for the first time since last season. Davies did not get a decision in a 1-0 loss at Cincinnati last time out with seven shutout frames.
The over is 10-1-2 in Chicago’s last 13 road games and the under is 9-4 in Lackey’s last 13 on grass while going 9-4 in Lackey’s last 13 starts overall. Milwaukee are 2-6 in their last 8 overall and are 2-6 in their last 8 games on grass while going 5-14 in their last 19 Saturday games. Chicago are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in Milwaukee and are 22-8 in the last 30 meetings. Perhaps I’m going out on the limb but the pitching has similar numbers…
