The Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers take the field at Fenway Park on Tuesday night.
The Detroit Tigers are very much in the Wild Card race if they can avoid losing streaks. The Tigers ended a two game losing streak with a 4-2 victory at Fenway Park on Monday. Tigers starter Justin Verlander improved to 10-6 with a run given up on five hits over six frames. Detroit managed eight hits and walked twice with Jose Iglesias went 2-4 with a homer wit two RBI’s and a pair of runs. Veteran Mike Pelfrey shoots for back to back wins after downing the White Sox 2-1 last time out. Pelfrey allowed the lone run on eight hits and a walk over 8.1 innings of work.

The Boston Red Sox received a taste of first in the American League East for a day and want to get back there. The Red Sox had won four of six before Monday’s defeat that also cost them a game in the standings with Baltimore winning. Boston starter Drew Pomeranz allowed two runs through six innings to fall to 0-1 with two relievers giving up a run each. The Red Sox logged ten hits and three walks with Travis Shaw and Sandy Leon driving in runs. The Red Sox are slated to send Steven Wright to the bump to oppose the Tigers for the second time in his career. Wright defeated Minnesota 13-2 last time out with an earned run allowed in eight frames.
The under is 6-1-1 in Detroit’s last 8 overall and is 6-1-1 in their last 8 road games while going 6-1-1 in their last 8 on grass. Boston are 8-2 in their last 10 home games and are 10-3 in their last 13 overall while going 10-3 in their last 13 games on grass. The Tigers are 15-36 in their last 51 meetings in Boston.
