Coming up on Tuesday from Progressive Field, we’ve got the first of a quick two-game set between the Washington Nationals and the Cleveland Indians on taop.
The Nationals are fresh off a weekend set against the Padres, where they dropped two of three games—winning by one run on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Indians are coming off a set against the Orioles over the weekend, and lost all three of their games by a combined 15-6 score overall.
Lefty Gio Gonzalez will be taking the mound for the Nationals on Tuesday. In his 19 starts and 6-8 record this year, Gonzalez has put up a 4.53 ERA with a 1.37 WHIP in 109.1 innings. In his last start against the Dodgers, Gonzalez logged six innings of one-earned ball on three hits for a win.
Helping things out at the plate for the Nationals, we’ve got some very exciting hitters up top. Daniel Murphy has been blasting on 127 hits with 58 runs, 19 homers and 73 RBI. Wilson Ramos is the next closest with his 101 hits, 42 runs, 14 homers and 53 RBI. Anthony Rendon is up there as well on 89 hits with 57 runs, 11 homers and 36 RBI so far.
As for the Indians, we’ll be getting another look at RHP Danny Salazar on Tuesday. Over his 18 starts and nice 11-3 record this year, Salazar has posted a 2.75 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP in 111.1 innings overall. Salazar managed a win in his last outing in Kansas City with 6.2 innings, eight hits and two earned.
Cleveland has a very well-rounded group of hitters at the plate. Francisco Lindor has notched 113 hits to lead the team alongside 68 runs, 12 homers and 49 RBI. Jason Kipnis is in the century club as well on his 107 hits with 55 runs, 16 homers and 52 RBI. Carlos Santana has 21 homers with 55 runs, 91 hits, and 54 RBI alongside a .251 BA so far.
The Nationals are 4-1 in their last five road games, and 9-3 in their last 12 against the American League Central. Washington is also 3-8 in Gonzalez’s last 11 starts, and 5-2 in Gonzalez’s last seven starts in game one of a series.
As for the Indians, they’re 4-0 in their last four Tuesday games, and 10-4 in their last 14 game ones of a series. Cleveland is also 1-4 in their last five home games, and 19-9 in their last 28 games on grass.
I feel like the Indians will rally around Salazar here, so we should see a Cleveland victory in this opener.
