The Milwaukee Brewers look to build on an impressive victory at home yesterday as they continue their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
The Diamondbacks took one on the chin last night and dropped their seventh decision in 10 outings as their disappointing season continues and with the trade deadline just around the corner it’ll be interesting to see if they sell a piece or two to try and speed up their bounce back effort next year. The Snakes went out and tried to buy their way into contention in the NL West as they brought in Shelby Miller and Zack Grienke to lead the rotation but they haven’t been able to live up to expectations and the former could be on the move by the end of the month as he could be a vital piece to a contender this season.

The Brewers meanwhile are in a similar position as the Diamondbacks as they have underachieved and will be looking to unload some pieces but unlike the Snakes the Brewers are far from contention and will need a full blown rebuild in the offseason. The likes of Ryan Braun, Jeremy Jeffress, Will Smith, and Jonathan Lucroy are all attractive pieces and could find a new home that is playoff bound on August 1st and their play during the week leading up to the non-waiver deadline could impact the return value if they do indeed get moved. Milwaukee will send Matt Garza to the mound here as he will face off against Pat Corbin.
The D-Backs are 1-7 in their last eight road games, 5-17 in their last 22 overall, and 2-9 in their last 11 against a team with a losing record while the Brewers are 1-4 in their last five home games, 0-4 in Garza’s last four starts, and 3-8 in their last 11 overall. Arizona got roughed up last night but I expect them to bounce back here as they still have some pop in the lineup and I think they can get to Garza in this one.
