East meets West when the Washington Nationals visit the San Francisco Giants Thursday.
The Washington Nationals are hot and cold but their record says they win far more then they lose. The Nationals had dropped four of five before the pitching controlled dangerous Cleveland 4-1 on Wednesday. Nats starter Stephen Strasburg improved to 14-1 with seven scoreless frames. Washington mustered six hits and four walks with Daniel Murphy slugging a solo homer while Trea Turner went 3-4 with three runs knocked in. Tanner Roark shoots for his 10th win when he opposes San Francisco on the road Thursday. Roark comes off of a 5-3 loss to San Diego with all five runs allowed on four hits including two homers over five innings.

The San Francisco Giants looked like the easy winners in the National League West but they have been in a funk and nothing is clear now. The Giants look like a team without direction after a 2-1 loss to visiting Cincinnati on Thursday. Poor defense and no offense dropped Madison Bumgarner to 10-6 with both runs allowed (one earned) on five hits with nine strikeouts through eight innings. The big offense of San Francisco was held to just four hits with Conor Gillaspie accounting for the scoring with his 4th homer. The Giants hand the ball to Johnny Cueto who faces the Nationals for the first time in 2016. Cueto did not get a decision in a 2-1 win at New York last time out despite allowing an unearned run in six frames.
Washington was 4-9 in their last 13 road games. San Francisco are 2-8 in their last 10 overall and are 2-8 in their last 10 games on grass while going 19-7 in their last 26 home games. The under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings. The Giants better get in gear because they don’t look good and I don’t see a need to bet either team…
