Coming our way from Citi Field on Friday, we’ve got game two MLB action featuring the Colorado Rockies and the New York Mets.
In Thursday’s opener of this series, New York was in position for a victory with a 1-0 lead in the ninth, but blew two runs to fall to Colorado 2-1. There were 18 hits in this game between both the Mets and Rockies, but not a lot of scoring came of them.

Taking the mound for the Rockies on Friday will be RHP Tyler Chatwood. In his 18 starts and 9-6 record this season, Chatwood has accounted for a 3.65 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP in 103.2 innings. Bagging a win against Atlanta in his last start, Chatwood put up five innings of shutout ball with just one hit to show for it.
We’ve got some nice hitters atop the Colorado order. Carlos Gonzalez heads the charge on his 121 hits with 66 runs, 20 homers and 62 RBI. DJ LeMahieu has managed 114 hits with 63 runs and 34 RBI. Nolan Arenado has put up 111 hits with 69 runs, 26 homers and 78 RBI so far. Arenado whiffed 0-for-5 on Thursday.
On the other side, the Mets will be wheeling out lefty Steven Matz. In his 18 games with an 8-6 record this year, Matz holds a 3.36 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP in 107 innings. Taking a win his last time out in Miami, Matz put up six innings with four hits and no earned.
The New York hitters are a pretty well-rounded crew all together. Yoenis Cespedes holds 95 hits with 49 runs, 22 homers and 58 RBI. Asdrubal Cabrera has hit 95 times with 40 runs, 13 homers and 33 RBI. Curtis Grandson sits on 84 hits with 47 runs, 16 homers and 29 RBI thus far.
The Rockies are 5-0 in Chatwood’s last five Friday starts, and 8-1 in Chatwood’s last nine road starts. Colorado is also 2-6 in their last eight Friday games, and 17-38 in their last 55 game twos of a series.
As for the Mets, they’re 20-7 in their last 27 Friday games, and 5-0 in Matz’s last five Friday starts. New York is also 3-7 in Matz’s last 10 starts, and 1-4 in Matz’s last five home starts.
I don’t have a whole lot of faith in the pitching matchup here, so I’ll take the over. I’ll give the Rockies a slight edge, however.
