Coming up in MLB action on Sunday from Rogers Centre, the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays will be wrapping up their weekend series.
USA TODAY Sports
This will be the finale of the set. On Friday, Toronto eked out a 6-5 victory, scoring all half-dozen runs in the first three innings. In Saturday’s game, The Blue Jays made it two in a row with a rousing 9-1 win.
RHP Chris Tillman will be wrapping up his July with a visit to the mound on Sunday. In 22 starts and a 14-3 record this season, Tillman has produced a 3.47 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP in 132.1 innings. During his last start against the Rockies at home, Tillman posted a loss on five innings, nine hits and six earned in a disappointing outing.
Backing things up at the plate, we’ve got a host of nice Baltimore hitters. Manny Machado heads the crowd on 121 hits with 71 runs, 22 homers and 58 RBI. Jonathan Schoop has put up 111 hits with 56 runs, 17 homers and 58 RBI so far. Mark Trumbo sits on 110 hits with 57 runs, 30 homers and 75 RBI. Machado, Trumbo and Schoop combined to go 0-for-10 on Saturday.
Over on the Blue Jays’ side, we’ll be seeing right-hander Aaron Sanchez on the mound. Over 20 starts and an 11-1 record so far, Sanchez carries a 2.72 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP in 132.1 innings overall. During a win over the Padres his last time out, Sanchez put up seven innings of shutout ball on just three hits.
Helping out Sanchez on Sunday will be a great cast of Toronto hitters. Josh Donaldson has put up 117 hits with 87 runs, 25 homers and 67 RBI thus far in 2016. Kevin Pillar is standing on 105 hits with 43 runs and 44 RBI. Pillar blasted two hits with four RBI on Saturday. Edwin Encarnacion has hit 100 times with 63 runs, 27 homers and 88 RBI.
The Orioles are 11-0 in Tillman’s last 11 starts against the American League East, and 5-0 in Tillman’s last five Sunday Starts. Baltimore is also 5-1 in Tillman’s last six road starts, and 45-22 in Tillman’s last 67 starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are 6-0 in Sanchez’s last six starts against the American League East, and 6-1 in Sanchez’s last seven home starts. Toronto is also 4-1 in Sanchez’s last five starts overall, and 10-4 in their last 14 game threes of a series.
I like Tillman to bounce back here, and given the pitching matchup I like the under, though anything could happen. I’ll give the Jays a slight winning edge, though.
