In Monday MLB action from sunny Tropicana Field, the Kansas City Royals and the Tampa Bay Rays will be kicking off their series.
The Royals are coming off a weekend set against the Rangers. KC dropped the first three games by a combined seven runs, then on Sunday in the finale the Rangers made it a four-game sweep with a 5-3 win.

As for the Rays, they just finished up against the Yankees this weekend. Tampa got the first two games by a combined 11-4 score, and on Sunday the Rays finished things off with a 5-3 win.
Southpaw Danny Duffy will be taking the hill for the Royals on Monday. In his 30 appearances (14 starts) and 6-1 record this year, Duffy holds a 3.22 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP in 100.2 innings of work. During a no-decision against the Angels his last time out, Duffey put up six innings with seven hits and three runs.
Taking the swings for Kansas City are a few notable names. Eric Hosmer leads the way on 110 hits with 52 runs, 15 homers and 58 RBI. Alcides Escobar has hit 109 times with 34 runs and 26 RBI. Salvador Perez has been great with his 91 hits, 39 runs, 14 homers and 45 RBI as a backstop.
Taking the mound for the Rays on Monday, we’ve got RHP Chris Archer. In his 22 starts and 5-14 Record this year, Archer owns a 4.42 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP in 130.1 innings. During a loss in LA his last time out, Archer put up seven innings with four hits and three runs (one earned).
Looking at the Tampa Bay batters, a few big names jump right out. Evan Longoria is way out front on his 115 hits with 53 runs, 23 homers and 58 RBI. Logan Forsythe has 81 hits with 43 runs, 10 homers and 29 RBI. Brad Miller sits on 86 hits with 44 runs, 17 homers and 39 RBI so far. Miller bagged a solo homer on Sunday.
The Royals are 5-11 in their last 16 game ones of a series, and 0-6 in their last six against the American League East. Kansas City is also 6-0 in Duffy’s last six starts overall, and 6-2 in Duffy’s last eight Monday starts.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 1-4 in their last five games versus a left-handed starter, and 3-13 in their last 16 against the American League Central. Tampa Bay is also 7-14 in their last 21 home games and 11-29 in their last 40 overall.
I like Duffy to control this game, so I’ll take the Royals in this one—though it may be a close result.
