Turner Field and the Atlanta Braves host the Pittsburgh Pirates in their series opener.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are barely above .500 right now and just don’t have it together this season. The Pirates are fresh off a three game sweep at Milwaukee following a 4-2 defeat on Sunday. Buccos starter Francisco Liriano fell to 6-11 with all four runs plated on six hits including two homers over five frames. Pitt was held to five hits and a pair of bases on balls with Gregory Polanco going solo while John Jaso drove in Jordy Mercer. Gerrit Cole gets the ball in the series opener at the Braves on Tuesday. Cole looks to build on his 10-1 win versus visiting Seattle last time out where he tossed a complete game.

The Atlanta Braves are aware they are going nowhere so they have been getting looks at a few players which is the smart thing to do. The Braves have won two of three after rallying past Philadelphia 2-1 on Sunday. Bravos starter Joel De La Cruz tossed 4.1 scoreless innings with five relievers seeing action. Atlanta managed six hits and four walks with Jeff Francoeur cracking a two run homer in the 7th that scored Nick Markakis. Mike Foltynewicz will be on the mound Tuesday to oppose the Pirates for the second time in 2016. Foltynewicz comes off a 9-7 win at Minnesota despite allowing seven runs on 12 hits in 6.1 frames.
The under is 7-2 in Pittsburgh’s last 9 Tuesday games and the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games following a loss while going 14-6-1 in Cole’s last 21 road starts. The under is 15-5-1 in Atlanta’s last 21 Tuesday games and the Braves are 14-37 in their last 51 Tuesday games while going 16-38 in their last 54 home games. The Pirates are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. The Braves tend to win games like this and the Pirates are nothing special so use caution…
