Coming up on Wednesday in MLB action, we’ve got another installment of the Subway Series between the New York Mets and the New York Yankees from Yankee Stadium.
In Monday’s opener, the Yankees eked out a 6-5 victory. On Tuesday, the Mets secured a relatively easy 7-1 win.

Taking the mound for the Mets on Wednesday will be lefty Steven Matz. In his 19 starts this year, Matz owns an 8-7 record with a 3.35 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP in 113 innings. Taking a loss to the Rockies his last time out, Matz put up 10 hits with two earned in six innings.
Helping things along with the bats, we’ve got some nice New York swingers. Asdrubal Cabrera heads the charge with 95 hits, 42 runs, 13 homers and 33 RBI. Yoenis Cespedes has put up 96 hits with 49 runs, 22 homers and 59 RBI. Neil Walker owns 89 hits with 41 runs, 17 homers and 46 RBI so far.
Over on the Yankees’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Chad Green, who takes the spot of the now-traded Ivan Nova. In seven games (three starts) and a 1-2 record this year, Green holds a 4.56 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP in 23.2 innings overall.
The Yankees batters feature a few notable names as well. Carlos Beltran has hit 109 times with 40 runs, 22 homers and 64 RBI. Didi Gregorius holds 105 hits with 45 runs, 12 homers and 46 RBI. Gregorius smacked a solo homer on Tuesday. As for Starlin Castro, he's got 101 hits with 39 runs and 41 RBI.
The Mets are 4-0 in Matz’s last four starts in game three of a series, and 9-3 in Matz’s last 12 road starts. New York is also 1-4 in Matz’s last five starts overall, and 0-4 in Matz’s last four starts with four days’ rest.
As for the Yankees, they’re 1-4 in their last five interleague games against a left-handed starter, and 6-3 in their last nine home games. New York is also 7-2 in their last nine against the National League East and 4-1 in their last five games on grass.
The Yankees are officially phoning it in for the rest of the year, so I’ll take the Mets and Matz here for the victory.
