The Kansas City Royals butt heads with the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field Wednesday.
The Kansas City Royals are not going to defend their American League Central crown as they aren’t even at .500. The Royals had lost eight of ten but had enough in the tank to knock off the Rays 3-2 on Tuesday. KC starter Yordano Ventura allowed both runs on six hits and four BB over five frames with four relievers holding the Rays off the board. KC totaled nine hits with Salvador Perez clubbing a two run bomb while Eric Hosmer driving in a run and scoring. Edinson Volquez toes the rubber for the first time this season versus Tampa Bay. Volquez was hit hard in an 8-3 loss at Texas last time out with six runs scoring on nine hits including two homers over six innings.

The Tampa Bay Rays are buried in the American League Central basement and that doesn’t figure to change. After winning four in a row the Rays offense never got going and has the team looking at back to back defeats. TB starter Matt Andriese gave up a run through four innings with Xavier Cedeno allowed two runs. Tampa Bay mustered nine hits with Desmond Jennings recording an RBI while Logan Forsythe and Kevin Kiermaier combined for five hits and a run apiece. Jake Odorizzi looks to stay hot when he opposes the Royals for the first time in 2016. Odorizzi has tossed back to back shutouts with eleven hits allowed in 14.2 frames.
Kansas City are 2-8 in their last 10 overall and are 16-35 in their last 51 road games. The under is 7-2 in Tampa Bay’s last 9 overall and is 9-3-1 in their last 13 on astroturf while going 9-3-1 in their last 13 home games. Kansas City are 21-5 in the last 26 meetings and the over is 9-3-1 in the last 13 meetings. The Royals might be down but they are not a bad team…
