Over at PNC Park on Friday, the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Reds are fresh off a three-game set against the Cardinals. The two teams split the first two games, and on Thursday the Reds took the series with a 7-0 win.

As for the Pirates, they just finished up against the Braves. Those two teams split their first two as well, and in Thursday’s rubber match, Pittsburgh lost 5-2.
Taking the mound for the Reds on Friday will be RHP Anthony DeSclafani. In his 10 starts and 6-0 record this year, DeSclafani holds a 2.93 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP in 61.1 innings. Taking a no-decision against the Padres his last time out, DeSclafani put up six innings with four hits and one earned.
Now let’s take a look at a few of the top Reds hitters. Joey Votto has managed 103 hits with 66 runs, 18 homers and 54 RBI. Brandon Phillips sits on 103 hits with 48 runs and 40 RBI. Phillips scored three runs on Thursday. Jay Bruce has put up 98 hits with 60 runs, 25 homers and 80 RBI, but was just recently traded to the Mets.
Over on the Pirates’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP James Taillon Friday. In his eight starts and 2-2 record this year, Taillon has put up a 3.52 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP in 46 innings. In a loss to the Brewers his last time out, Taillon managed six innings with six hits and two earned.
The Pittsburgh hitters have a few notable names as well. Starling Marte has 119 hits to lead the team alongside 58 runs and 37 RBI. Gregory Polanco has hit 98 times with 58 runs, 15 homers and 56 RBI. Jody Mercer has 98 hits with 44 runs and 38 RBI.
The Reds are 6-0 in their last six game ones of a series, and 17-35 in their last 52 Friday games. Cincinnati is also 6-0 in DeSclafani’s last six starts in game one of a series, and 4-1 in Desclafani’s last five starts overall.
As for the Pirates, they’re 43-21 in their last 64 Friday games, and 1-4 in their last five against the National League Central. Pittsburgh is also 4-1 in Taillon’s last five starts, and 4-1 in Taillon’s last five starts on grass.
I like the way DeSclafani is pitching, though this should be a lower-scoring game with Taillon on the other side. I’ll take the Reds, though.
