Headed our way Saturday in MLB action, the New York Mets and the Detroit Tigers will be picking up their series again from Comerica Park.
This will be game two of the set. In game one Friday,
USA TODAY Sports
RHP Logan Verrett will be taking the mound for the Mets on Saturday. In his 28 games (10 starts) and 3-6 record this year, Verrett owns a 4.20 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP in 79.1 innings. Taking a no-decision his last time out Verrett logged five innings with four hits and three earned against the Yankees.
The Mets have got a nice collection of bats up top in their lineup. Yoenis Cespedes has put up 97 hits with 49 runs, 22 homers and 59 RBI. Asdrubal Cabrera is sitting on 95 hits with 42 runs, 13 homers and 33 RBI. Neil Walker holds 96 hits with 44 runs, 18 homers and 47 RBI. Walker bagged two hits and a run on Friday.
Over on the Tigers’ side, we’ll be seeing lefty Matt Boyd make the start Saturday. In his 10 games (nine starts) and 2-2 record this season, Boyd has put up a 4.71 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP in 49.2 innings. Boyd bagged a win his last time out with five innings, four hits and three earned against the Astros.
Now let’s check out a few of the Tigers hitters. Ian Kinsler has logged 128 hits with 87 runs, 21 homers and 60 RBI. Miguel Cabrera holds 126 hits with 64 runs, 25 homers and 71 RBI. Nick Castellanos has 114 hits with 51 runs, 18 homers and 58 RBI. Castellanos came up empty 0-for-3 on Friday.
The Mets are 13-6 in their last 19 road games versus a left-handed starter and 2-5 in their last seven games against a left-handed starter. New York is also 0-4 in their last four Saturday games, and 1-7 in Merrett’s last eight starts.
As for Detroit, they’re 4-0 in their last four game twos of a series, and 6-1 in Boyd’s last seven home starts. The Tigers are also 4-1 in Boyd’s last five starts in game two of a series, and 4-1 in Boyd’s last five starts with seven or more days’ rest.
I like Boyd and the way he’s been pitching lately, so this shouldn’t be too hard for the Tigers to get a victory.
