The Toronto Blue Jays look to stay red hot and win their second game in as many tries against the Kansas City Royals as the two sides meet up again at Kauffman on Saturday.
The Blue Birds got a big win to kick off their grudge match series with the Royals in Kansas City over the weekend as they stuck to their game plan and outlasted the reigning champs by a 4-3 final in Francisco Liriano’s first start with the team. Toronto did receive a scare after Josh Donaldson took a pitch off the head but he stayed in the game and looks to be fine moving forward and should be in the lineup on Saturday when Aaron Sanchez takes to the bump to face off against Danny Duffy who is coming off his best start of the year in which he hung 16 strikeouts and was a hit shy of a no hitter. Toronto are slight favourites in this one as they clearly have the better lineup right now and with all of the buzz surrounding Sanchez and his potential move to the bullpen you can bet he would love to throw his best game of the season.

The Royals haven’t had the encore that many people were expecting this season and as each game passes they likelihood of them missing out on the playoffs altogether this season is becoming higher and higher. Kansas City does still have an outside chance at closing the gap in the American League wild card picture as there is still plenty of baseball left to be played but many are writing them off as they are a shade of where they were last year and are not as good as the rest of the teams in the mix for those two final playoff spots.
The Blue Jays are 8-3 in their last 11 overall, 12-5 in Sanchez’ last 17 starts, and 6-1 in their last seven road games while the Royals are 39-19 in their last 58 home games, 8-3 in their last 11 home games against a team with a winning road record, and 6-13 in their last 19 games against a righty. The Jays are the better team playing the better baseball and while Duffy often gets overlooked I think Sanchez gets another win in this one.
