The San Francisco Giants battle the Washington Nationals in DC on Saturday night.
The San Francisco Giants control their own fate as they sit atop the National League West despite their recent slowdown. The Giants struggled to score Friday in a 5-1 loss at Washington and have dropped three of four. SF starter Jeff Samardzija gave up all five runs on six hits including two long balls over seven frames. San Francisco was held to four hits and a base on balls with an Angel Pagan homer accounting for their only run. The Giants sent Matt Cain to the bump to oppose Washington for the second straight time. Cain defeated the Nationals 3-1 with no hit baseball (four BB) over five innings.

The Washington Nationals haven’t locked up the National League East yet but are heading that way. The Nationals stayed hot with Friday’s victory and now have won seven of nine overall. Nats starter Gio Gonzalez allowed the lone run on just two hits through seven innings to pick up the win. Washington posted five hits and walked twice with Trea Turner going solo and scoring twice while Wilson Ramos clubbed a two run bomb with Bryce Harper recording an RBI and scoring. Stephen Strasburg looks to continue his career year against San Francisco Saturday. Strasburg defeated Arizona 14-1 last time out with the lone run allowed on three hits in six frames.
San Francisco are 2-9 in their last 11 road games and the under is 6-2 in their last 8 overall while going 6-2 in their last 8 on grass. Washington are 6-2 in their last 8 overall and are 6-2 in their last 8 games on grass while the over is 14-3 in Strasburg’s last 17 starts on grass. The Giants are 4-12 in the last 16 meetings in Washington and are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. I’m just going with the hotter team…
