Coming our way on Sunday from Tropicana Field, the Minnesota Twins and the Tampa Bay Rays will be finishing up their weekend series.
This will be the third game of the set. On Friday, the Twins bagged a healthy 6-2 win. In Saturday’s game, the Rays picked up a 7-3 win of their own.

Taking the mound for the Twins on Sunday will be RHP Kyle Gibson. In his 14 starts and 3-6 record this year, Gibson holds a 4.94 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP over 82 innings. In his last outing, Gibson gave up six earned on 10 hits in 4.2 innings against the Indians.
At the plate, we’ve got some nice Minnesota hitters on tap. Eduardo Nunez has managed 110 hits with 49 runs, 12 homers and 47 RBI. Joe Mauer sits on 107 hits with 57 runs and 41 RBI. Brian Dozier has hit 105 times with 63 runs, 22 homers and 62 RBI.
Over on the Rays’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Matt Andriese on Sunday. Over his 19 games (nine starts) and 6-2 record, Andriese owns a 2.72 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP in 76 innings. During his last start, Andriese gave up one earned on three hits in four innings.
Taking the swings for the Rays, we’ve got some notable names. Evan Longoria is way out front on 118 hits, 54 runs, 24 homers and 60 RBI. Brad Miller has hit 93 times with 50 runs, 20 homers and 45 RBI. Logan Forsythe holds 90 hits with 51 runs, 11 homers and 30 RBI
The Twins are 4-0 in their last four game threes of a series, and 6-2 in their last eight Sunday games. Minnesota is also 6-2 in Gibson’s last eight starts, and 5-12 in Gibson’s last 17 starts against the American League East.
As for the Rays, they’re 4-1 in their last five game threes of a series, and 2-5 in their last seven Sunday games. Tampa Bay is also 8-1 in Andriese’s last nine starts versus a team with a losing record, and 5-1 in Andriese’s last six home starts versus a team with a losing record.
Andriese has played pretty well over the past couple of weeks, so I like him and the Rays here, though his leash will likely be short.
