The Detroit Tigers go on the road to face the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field in Monday action.
The Detroit Tigers have become a real threat in the American League Central and the question is whether they can maintain their pace. Despite a 3-1 defeat to the visiting Mets Sunday the Tigers have won ten of 12 but wasted a solid pitching effort. Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez gave up a run and struck out ten over eight frames for a no decision before Francisco Rodriguez served up a two run homer in the 9th to get the loss. Detroit posted eleven hits and three walks with Ian Kinsler driving in Justin Upton. Rookie Michael Fulmer gets the ball for his second start of the year against the Mariners. Fulmer is a reason the Tigers are in the playoff hunt with his 9-2 record and 2.42 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners are still pushing for the postseason and need wins and help to get there. The Mariners helped themselves out Sunday with a 3-1 victory versus the visiting Angels. M’s starter was at his best with an unearned run allowed through 8.1 innings. The M’s did their damage on seven hits with Nelson Cruz, Leonys Martin and Mike Freeman driving in a run each. Hisashi Iwakuma draws his second start of the season against the Tigers on Monday. Iwakuma comes off of a 3-1 victory versus visiting Boston with 7.1 innings of shutout baseball.
Detroit are 10-1 in their last 11 overall and are 10-1 in their last 11 games on grass while the under is 8-2-1 in their last 11 road games. The over is 7-3 in Iwakuma’s last 10 home starts. I think an argument for both teams but I’ll back Fulmer and the Tigers…
