As for the Pirates, they played the Reds over the weekend, winning Friday and Saturday, but losing out on the sweep with a loss Sunday.
Taking the hill for San Diego on Tuesday will be right-hander Luis Perdomo. In his 28 games (11 starts) and 5-5 record this year, Perdomo holds a 6.67 ERA with a 1.83 WHIP in 89 innings this year. In his last start, Perdomo took the loss against Milwaukee with 10 hits and three earned in 6.2 innings.
As for hitters, the Padres have a few of note. Will Myers leads the pack on 117 hits with 74 runs , 21 homers and 68 RBI. Alexi Ramirez has hit 89 times with 32 runs and 36 RBI. Melvin Upton holds 88 hits with 46 runs, 16 homers and 45 RBI.
RHP Chad Kuhl will be toeing the rubber for Pittsburgh on Tuesday. In his four games so far alongside a 1-0 record, Kuhl owns a 4.19 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP. Kuhl hasn’t pitched since the 17th, as he’s been nursing a biceps injury and has spent a little rehab time in Triple-A.
The Pirates have a few notable hitters as well. Starling Marte has hits 122 times with 59 runs and 39 RBI. Jody Mercer has 100 hits with 44 runs and 40 RBI. Gregory Polanco has hit 98 times with 58 runs, 15 homers and 56 RBI.
The Padres are 5-0 in their last five games following a loss, and 7-22 in their last 29 Tuesday games. San Diego is also 5-2 in Perdomo’s last seven road starts, and 3-10 in their last 13 road games.
As for the Pirates, they’re 42-15 in their last 57 against the National League West, and 5-2 in their last seven home games. Pittsburgh is also 14-6 in their last 20 games following an off day, and 3-7 in their last 10 against a right-handed starter.
I just don’t see San Diego with enough offensive firepower to overcome the Pirates here, so I’ll take Pittsburgh.
