The Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets end their series Thursday at Citi Field.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are not going to the playoffs so the remainder of the year should be used for giving a few youngsters a look. The Diamondbacks are showing a little spunk with wins in four of five following a 3-2, 12 inning victory at Citi Field on Wednesday with their pitching carrying the day. D-Backs starter Robbie Ray tossed seven scoreless innings that turned in to a no decision when Jake Barrett served up a two run bomb in the bottom of the 9th. Zona logged eleven hits with Oscar Hernandez going solo while Paul Goldschmidt driving in two. The Diamondbacks send rookie Braden Shipley to the hill for his 4th career start Thursday. Shipley did not receive a decision last time out in a 3-2 win versus Milwaukee with both runs plated over six innings.

The New York Mets are not much more then a .500 club right now and that won’t be good enough to make the postseason. The Mets are staring at defeats in four of five following Wednesday’ defeat. NYM starter Bartolo Colon gave up a run through seven innings while whiffing eight for a no decision before Jerry Blevins surrendered a homer in the 12th to absorb the loss. New York was held to six hits and a free pass with Kelly Johnson’s two run, pinch hit homer in the bottom of the 9th only prolonging the inevitable for a team that can’t hit. Hard throwing Noah Syndergaard draws Thursday’s start against the visiting Diamondbacks. Syndergaard dropped a 4-3 decision at Detroit last time out with all four runs scoring on seven hits in six frames.
The over is 7-1 in Arizona’s last 8 overall and is 7-1 in their last 8 on grass while the Diamondbacks are 4-12 in their last 16 road games. The Mets are 3-10 in their last 13 home games and the over is 7-3 in their last 10 overall while going 7-3 in their last 10 on grass. The under is 8-3-2 in the last 13 meetings. I love Syndergaard if he throws a shutout and hits a homer because this team is awful at the plate and not a team I like betting…
