The Boston Red Sox look to keep pace in the AL wild card picture as they host the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks in interleague action on Friday night.
The Diamondbacks have had a woeful season after heading into the year with so much promise but after injuries derailed their chances of challenging for the NL West crown they packed it in at the all-star break and sent some pieces packing at the trade deadline. Arizona will be back though as they are a good team when operating at full strength and getting AJ Pollock back for the last stretch of the regular season could be a catalyst to their momentum for next year. However, they are in a tough spot here as they send Patrick Corbin to the mound who has been dreadful this season and he has to face off against David Price who is still looking to prove his worth after the Red Sox broke the bank on him in the offseason.

The Red Sox have had a very good year and have a very good shot at being rewarded with a playoff spot as they are right in the mix in the AL wild card race and still very much in play in the AL East. Boston has a ton of talent in the lineup and they are only going to get better as guys like Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts will be around for the long haul and are already proving they are among the league’s elite. Add in the fact that Boston is already rumored to land one of the pending big bats fro their division rivals from Toronto as Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista have been linked to possibly jumping ship next year and the BoSox could be back at the top of the league as early as next year.
Arizona is 4-1 in their last five road games, 1-5 in their last six Friday games, and 0-4 in Corbin’s last four road starts while the Red Sox are 9-2 in their last 11 series openers, 8-2 in their last 10 against a lefty, and 12-5 in their last 17 interleague home games. The Red Sox are big favourites here but for good cause as they should smack the Snakes here and cruise to a multi run win.
