In MLB action from Dodger Stadium on Friday, we’ve got the opener between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Los Angeles Dodgers on tap.
The Pirates are fresh off a three-game set against the Padres. Pittsburgh and San Diego each got one of the first two games, and on Thursday the PIrates bagged a 4-0 win.

As for the Dodgers, they just finished up against the Phillies. Los Angeles won the first two games with nine runs scored in each, but dropped Wednesday’s game 6-2.
Pitching for the Pirates on Friday will be right-hander Ivan Nova. In his 22 games (16 starts) and 8-6 record this year, Nova holds a 4.83 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP in 104.1 innings. In his most recent start, Nova gave up three earned on six hits in a seven-inning win over the Reds.
Pittsburgh has a pretty boast-worthy lineup of hitters up top. Starling Marte has hit 124 times with 60 runs and 39 RBI. Jody Mercer is sitting on 44 runs with 101 hits and 40 RBI. Gregory Polanco has hit an even 100 times with 59 runs, 16 homers and 60 RBI in 2016.
On the other side, we’ll be seeing RHP Ross Stripling take the mound for the Dodgers Friday. In his 13 games (nine starts) and 3-3 record this year, Stripling holds a 3.79 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP in 59.1 innings. Stripling will be taking the rotation slot of Rich Hill here, as Hill is still battling a blister on his hand and won’t be able to go.
Los Angeles has some nice hitters at the top of their order as well. Corey Seager leads the way on 135 hits with 73 runs, 21 homers and 55 RBI. Adrian Gonzalez has hit 118 times with 48 runs and 55 RBI. Chase Utley holds 91 hits with 55 runs and 33 RBI thus far in his latest veteran campaign.
The Pirates are 44-21 in their last 65 Friday games, and 39-14 in their last 53 against the National League West. Pittsburgh is also 2-5 in their last seven road games and 2-5 in their last seven road games against a right-handed starter.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 4-1 in their last five games following an off day, and 4-1 in their last five overall. L.A. is also 20-7 in their last 27 home games, and 7-3 in their last 10 Friday games.
I’m not too sure about the pitching matchup here, but I think the Pittsburgh offense should be able to take care of Stripling. Give me the Pirates.
