Down at Globe Life Park on Friday, the Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Tigers are coming out of a three-game set against the Mariners in Seattle this week. Detroit dropped all of those games by a combined eight runs.

Meanwhile, the Rangers just finished up a series versus the Rockies. Texas won the first three games of that set by a combined five runs, and on Thursday the Rangers gave up five runs in the eighth inning on the way to a 12-9 loss.
Taking the hill for the Tigers on Friday will be RHP Anibal Sanchez. Over his 26 games (18 starts), Sanchez holds a 6-11 record with a 5.88 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP. Still, Sanchez is pitching well right now with eight innings, four hits and one earned in a no-decision against the Mets his last time out.
The Detroit hitters boast a few notable names on offense. Ian Kinsler has hit 134 times with 90 runs to lead the team, alongside 21 homers and 62 RBI. Miguel Cabrera is sitting on 132 hits with 65 runs, 26 homers and 76 RBI. As for Victor Martinez, he’s got 121 hits, 45 runs, 20 homers and 66 RBI so far.
On the other side, we’ll be seeing right-hander Yu Darvish on the mound for the Rangers on Friday. Across eight starts and a 2-3 mark this year, Darvish owns a 2.78 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP in 45.1 innings. Darvish got a no-decision in his last game with seven innings, five hits and no earned against the Astros.
Texas also has a fine group of hitters at their disposal. Ian Desmond has logged 133 hits with 81 runs, 20 homers and 70 RBI. As for Rougned Odor, he’s got 124 hits with 70 runs, 22 homers and 60 RBI. Adrian Beltre has hit 118 times with 58 runs and 72 RBI in 2016. Odor and Beltre both hit homers on Thursday.
The Tigers are 4-0 in their last four games following an off day, and 4-0 in their last four Friday games. Detroit is also 7-1 in their last eight game ones of a series, and 0-8 in Sanchez’s last eight road starts.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 3-7 in their last 10 game ones of a series, and 11-5 in Darvish’s last 16 home starts. Texas is also 1-5 in Darvish’s last six starts overall, and 1-7 in Darvish’s last eight starts following a quality start in his last appearance.
This should be a pretty good matchup, but the Tigers and the Rangers seem headed in opposite directions in the standings. I’ll take Texas here.
