Headed our way in MLB action on Sunday, we’ve got series-closing activity between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Los Angeles Dodgers from Dodger Stadium.
This will be game three of the set. In Friday’s opener, the Pirates posted a 5-1 victory. On Saturday, the Dodgers managed an 8-4 win.

Taking the mound for the Pirates on Sunday will be RHP Chad Kuhl. Over his five starts and 2-0 record this year, Kuhl owns a 3.91 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP in 25.1 innings. Kuhn posted a win with six innings pitched, five hits and two earned his last time out against the Padres.
The Pirates have some nice offense this year. Starling Marte has logged 127 hits with 63 runs and 39 RBI. Josh Harrison sits on 44 RBI with 102 hits and 44 runs. Jody Mercer has put up 103 hits with 45 runs and 42 RBI thus far.
Over on the Dodgers’ side, we’ll be seeing lefty Brett Anderson in the starting role Sunday. This will be Anderson’s season debut, as he’s been out with a back injury all year. Anderson made it through a bullpen session on Thursday and should be good to go for this one.
Los Angeles isn’t hurting for offense when they need it, either. Corey Seager has managed 140 hits with 74 runs, 21 homers and 56 RBI. Adrian Gonzalez has 121 hits with 49 runs and 55 RBI. Justin Turner is sitting on 110 hits with 56 runs, 21 homers and 67 RBI.
The Pirates are 6-0 in their last six games against a left-handed starter, and 12-5 in their last 17 road games versus a left-handed starter. Pittsburgh is also 5-0 in Kuhl’s last five starts, and 5-0 in Kuhl’s last five starts on grass.
As for the Dodgers, they’re 40-19 in their last 59 Sunday games, and 46-22 in their last 68 game threes of a series. Los Angeles is also 4-1 in Anderson’s last five Sunday starts, and 1-4 in Anderson’s last five starts overall.
I like Kuhl and the Pirates here to gets some momentum going early and carry it through the game against a rusty Anderson. I’ll take Pittsburgh.
