The San Francisco Giants and the Baltimore Orioles close out their interleague MLB series on Sunday at AT&T Park.
The San Francisco Giants haven’t been their strongest since the All Star Break but on Saturday they beat the Orioles for the second time in a row. Brandon Belt hit his 14th home run of the season, Denard Span had two hits, and Joe Panik had three hits as the Giants scored six runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner allowed three hits and struck out eight over 7.0 scoreless innings to get the win and raise his record to 11-7 while Santiago Casilla earned his 27th save. For Sunday’s game the Giants start Johnny Cueto who has allowed 140 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 146 over 160 innings for a 13-3 record and a 2.92 ERA but he is 0-1 with a 6.11 ERA in his last three starts.

The Baltimore Orioles took the loss on Saturday and with it they fell a half of a game behinds the Toronto Blue Jays atop the AL East standings. Manny Machado, J.J. Hardy, and Mat Wieters each had hits but the Orioles had just five hits amounting to just two runs. Starting pitcher Kevin Gausman allowed two hits and two runs while striking out nine over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-10 on the season. For Sunday’s game the Orioles start Wade Miley who makes his third start since being traded to Baltimore but for the season he has allowed 131 hits and 68 earned runs while striking out 82 over 112 innings for a 7-10 record and a 4.98 ERA.
San Francisco is 19-7 in their last 26 games against a left-handed starter, 2-5 against the AL East, 20-8 in game three of a series, and 18-5 in Cueto’s last 23 starts. Baltimore is 8-3 in their last 11 interleague road games, 7-3 in their last 10 interleague games against a team with a winning record, and 5-2 on the road against a right handed starter.
I remember how Cueto pitched in the AL and it wasn’t pretty but the Giants have looked solid this series and they are the better option here.
