Headed our way on Sunday, we’ve got series-closing action between the Houston Astros and the Toronto Blue Jays from Rogers Centre.
This will be game three of the set. On Friday, the Astros put up a 5-3 victory. In Saturday’s game, Toronto secured a 4-2 win of their own.

Pitching for the Astros on Sunday will be right-hander Mike Fiers. In his 22 games (21 starts) and 8-5 record this year, Fiers owns a 4.46 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP in 121 innings. In Minnesota his last time out, Fiers gave up four earned on five hits in five innings for a victory.
The Houston order definitely has some gems in it. Jose Altuve has been rocking with 167 hits, 86 runs, 19 homers and 73 RBI. George Springer has 121 hits with 84 runs, 23 homers and 68 RBI. Carlos Correa is sitting on 117 hits with 58 runs and 82 RBI with 18 homers.
On the other side, the Blue Jays will be sending out RHP Marcus Stroman on Sunday. Across 23 starts and an 8-5 record this year, Stroman holds a 4.76 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP in 147.1 innings. Stroman most recently took a loss in KC his last time out, giving up three earned with seven hits in five innings.
Toronto has some pretty big hitters at their disposal as well. Josh Donaldson has 128 hits with 93 runs, 28 homers and 78 RBI. Edwin Encarnacion holds 116 hits with 72 runs, 32 homers and 95 RBI. Kevin Pillar has hit 110 times with 45 runs and 45 RBI.
The Astros are 6-0 in Fiers’ last six starts in game three of a series, and 5-0 in Fiers’ last five Sunday starts. Houston is also 7-3 in Fiers’ last 10 starts overall, and 3-7 in Fiers’ last 10 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are 1-4 in Stroman’s last five starts in game three of a series, and 1-4 in Stroman’s last five starts against the AL West. Toronto is also 1-5 in Stroman’s last six starts against a team with a winning record, and 15-7 in Stroman’s last 22 home starts.
I like Fiers in the pitching matchup here, so I’m going to stick with the Astros to get a game three victory in this one.
