The Colorado Rockies look to shake off a tough loss on the road yesterday as they return home to face off against Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals.
The Nats head into Mile High looking to build on their massive home win yesterday against the lowly Atlanta Braves and with a win they can continue to create separation in the National League East – a race that took another step in their favour yesterday after it was learned Giancarlo Stanton of the Marlins will be out for the rest of the season. Washington will turn to their Cy Young candidate in Scherzer who is having another exceptional season and he will look to add to it against the high octane offense of the Colorado Rockies and while he has tamed some great teams this year he will have the Coors factor to deal with which is never an easy feat for opposing pitchers.

The Rockies meanwhile had been a team o the rise and looked as though they were going to compete for a wild card spot in the National League but they have been sloppy of late and with a 2-8 record in their last 10 games they have played their way out of a playoff spot and will likely fall well short of that goal. Colorado is led at the plate by Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez but their pitching has been very weak once again and while they have some bright young prospects that will hopefully return them to the playoffs in a few short years they need to find a way to bring in some top end free agent talent but they remain a grave yard for starting pitching due to the altitude factor.
The Nats are 9-3 in their last 12 road games, 5-1 in their last six against the NL West, and 6-2 in Scherzer’s last eight road starts while the Rockies are 1-6 in their last seven overall, 1-4 in De La Rosa’s last five starts, and 1-5 in their last six home games. Washington are big favourites here and for good reason as they outduel the Rockies offense and tee off on De La Rosa combined with a strong outing from Mad Max.
